Metra's Corner

About Me

I grew up in a small town in Central West Texas. As a child, I loved losing myself in books and envisioning one day writing a book. I am a nonfiction writer passionate about healthcare and healthcare reform in the U.S. I hold a Master of Arts in Whole Systems Design from Antioch University Seattle with an emphasis on Cultural Change in a Health Care Oversight Organization and Systems Thinking and Design in Healthcare Management. I love using my knowledge of systems thinking, design theory, and change management to create opportunities for change and improvement.

I am an Army veteran who has led mobile medical units in the U.S. and overseas. I have served in staff and leadership positions in the federal government, contracting, and private sector industries.

My passion for healthcare system change started early in my life, as I questioned everything around me and couldn’t understand why there was a difference in how my family and I received care in comparison to others in our community. The more I learned about healthcare, the more determined I looked at finding places to intervene in the system to make it more equitable, accessible, and accountable to every American.

My first book, The Morality of Wellness, is featured here and available on Amazon. It is about changing the U.S. Healthcare System from a sickness system to a wellness system. I am sure you can imagine what a difference this would make in all of our lives. As a writer, Demetra’s Corner is about creating compelling content that engages and informs readers.

How Can You Get Involved?

  • Read my book (The Morality of Wellness) and highlight those areas that make you think.
  • Join our online group to tell your stories and talk to others about your experience and the book.
  • Get involved locally with your government to understand the local, state, and national healthcare rules and regulations and work to improve upon them to ensure equity and inclusion for everyone in the system.
  • Educate yourself and others about the systemic biases in healthcare and how they can be dismantled.
  • Actively support organizations that are working towards healthcare equity.

Change is a process, and your contribution, no matter how small, can make a difference. Let's take this journey together and create a wellness-care system that serves all.
